3 Things I Won’t Do as Your Therapist

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable. You may wonder what to expect, whether you’ll be judged, or whether you’ll be asked to talk about things you aren’t ready to discuss.

At Another Way Counseling & Wellness, I want you to know that therapy is a place where you can be yourself. My role isn’t to tell you who to be or how to live your life. It’s to walk alongside you, listen without judgment, and help you find a path forward that feels right for you.

Here are three things I won’t do as your therapist.

1. I won’t tell you how you “should” feel.

There is no perfect way to experience an emotion.

You may feel angry when you think you’re supposed to feel sad. You may feel relieved when you think you should feel guilty. You may even experience several emotions at the same time.

Rather than telling you how you should feel, I’ll help you understand what you’re feeling and where those emotions may be coming from.

Your feelings deserve to be heard—not judged.

2. I won’t judge you for where you are today.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin therapy.

Maybe you’re struggling in a relationship. Maybe you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, or simply not like yourself. Maybe you aren’t even sure exactly what you need.

That’s okay.

You can come to therapy exactly where you are. I’ll meet you there with compassion and curiosity, not

judgment.

3. I won’t force you to talk about something before you’re ready.

Therapy requires vulnerability, and trust takes time.

There may be things you’re not ready to talk about during your first session—or even several sessions later.

I respect that.

My goal is to create a safe environment where you can move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Wevcan work together to build the trust and safety necessary for deeper healing.

You are allowed to have boundaries in therapy, too.

Another Way Counseling & Wellness is here to provide a supportive, compassionate space where you can explore what you’re experiencing and discover your next step.
